Legislation to Archive House Meetings Passes House Committee

HR 2 seeks more transparency in government by keeping a record of House committee and floor proceedings

SANTA FE, NM – House Resolution 2, “Archive House Audio and Video Streams” sponsored by Rep. Steinborn (D-Dona Ana) was passed in the House Appropriations Committee after initially having been tabled.

HR 2 seeks to amend the House Rules to make video and audio streams of House Committee hearings as well as the video and audio streams of House floor proceedings available for later viewing. The webcasts will be kept for 5 years. An amendment to the original resolution means it won’t begin until the next Legislative session.

“All New Mexicans deserve the right to watch their government in action, as we make laws that affect them and their community,” said Rep. Steinborn. “Preserving a recording of our proceedings so that our constituents can watch at a time that is convenient to them is essential. Today's passage of my legislation is a good first step to making this transparency happen.”

HR 2 now goes to House Rules Committee.
