House Affirms Human Rights for Immigrants

Santa Fe – Today, a memorial to affirm human rights for undocumented people passed the New Mexico House. House Memorial 54, sponsored by Patricia Roybal Caballero (D-Albuquerque), upholds the House of Representatives promote, enforce, and defend policies and procedures that protect the human and civil rights of all people in New Mexico regardless of their status.

“This memorial affirms the salute we take to the Zia symbol of perfect friendships among united cultures. In a time where there’s unwarranted criticism of these communities, it is our responsibility to reaffirm our commitment to our inclusivity,” said Rep. Patricia Roybal Caballero.

HM 54 reflects New Mexico’s basic value of respect for all people. House Democrats recognize the historic and productive relationship between New Mexico and immigrants living in our state and work to ensure everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
