House Passes Bill to Expand Economic Opportunity for Farmers and Ranchers
Santa Fe, NM – Today, a bill sponsored by Rep. Nathan Small (D-Las Cruces) and Rep. Raymundo “Ray” Lara (D-Chamberino) to expand economic opportunity passed the House floor. House Bill 203 will include value-added agriculture to our statewide economic development plan.
“This legislation will help farmers, ranchers, and businesses across New Mexico to create more valuable products, expand the brand that is New Mexico-grown products, and increase economic opportunity for all New Mexicans,” said Rep. Nathan Small.
“Farmers and ranchers are the backbone of rural communities and help spur local economic development and create jobs. This bill recognize’s the integral role that rural communities play in our state,” said Rep. Ray Lara.
House Democrats know that ranching and farming are critical for our state’s economy and livelihood. House Bill 203 now heads to the Senate for consideration as part of the House “Rocket Docket” bills.
