Joint Session for the State of the Judiciary is Held on the House Floor
Chief Justice Nakamura addresses the House and Senate
Santa Fe – Today, the joint session for the State of the Judiciary was held on the House Floor. Chief Justice Judith Nakamura spoke before members of both the House and Senate. Chief Justice Nakamura addressed the state of the courts, detailing current issues and potential solutions. She also recognized the hardworking public servants across the state who dedicate themselves to service the courts and the people of New Mexico.
Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Gail Chasey (D-Albuquerque) said that it was an honor to have Chief Justice Nakamura address the body.
“What the courts do greatly impacts families and communities across New Mexico. Chief Justice Nakamura gave a great speech that brought these families and communities to life, illustrating to members of the legislature who may not be familiar with the process just how important these efforts are,” said House Judiciary Committee Chair Gail Chasey (D-Albuquerque).
This is the first of many joint sessions this legislative session. The next joint session will be January 22nd on the House floor with the Honorable U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-New Mexico).
