Majority Floor Leader Sheryl Williams Stapleton’s Memorial to Examine Public Safety Needs Passes the House

Santa Fe, NM – Monday, House Joint Memorial 9 (HJM 9), sponsored by House Majority Floor Leader Sheryl Williams Stapleton (D-Albuquerque), passed the House Floor. The memorial would create safer communities by addressing public safety needs across the state through direct communication with public safety stakeholders.

“There is fractured information within our system and we have multiple data systems within public safety that do not communicate with each other. This would look at solving that problem by bringing these stakeholders together and helping our law enforcement to more effectively tackle crime in communities across the state,” said House Majority Floor Leader Sheryl Williams Stapleton.

HJM 9 would convene a task force to examine the needs of public safety entities and to develop a public safety framework to access data that will be used to inform future funding and resources to address crime across the state. New Mexico currently does not have a coordinated public safety framework that can strategically analyze public safety issues in real time. House Democrats are committed to a comprehensive approach to crime and investing in real solutions that will make New Mexico communities safe.
