Majority of Rocket Docket Bills Pass in House Judiciary Committee, Move on to House Floor for Debate
Santa Fe, NM – Today, 17 House bills included on the “Rocket Docket” passed the House Judiciary Committee. House Democrats are committed to moving these bipartisan bills forward for the people of New Mexico because they will improve the lives of our families and communities.
In the House Judiciary Committee, members had the opportunity to give feedback and ask questions on the bills. During the hearing, Speaker Brian Egolf (D-Santa Fe) spoke about bipartisan support for the bills and the expertise of the House Judiciary Committee.
“These bills passed the House Judiciary Committee with bipartisan support, including support from Republican leadership,” said Speaker of the House Brian Egolf. “It's clear that these bills create opportunity for hard working New Mexicans, and I'm glad to see them moving through an open and transparent process."
This is the first step in the rocket docket bills going through the full legislative process, which means that all bills are subject to debate, amendments, and substitutions. All of the bills included in the package received five or fewer votes in opposition in either chamber during the 2017 or 2018 legislative sessions. House Bill 45 was rolled to a future committee hearing to allow for further discussion.
