Representative Nathan Small is a third generation New Mexican, from a family of educators and ranchers. An avid sportsman and horseman, he was a strong advocate for the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. Nathan served two terms as Las Cruces City Councilor, where he chaired the Economic Development Committee and is past board chair for the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley. In 2011 he received the Excellence in Range Management Award from the Society of Range Management. In 2012 Nathan was named Citizen of the Year by the Las Cruces Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Nathan is married to Xochitl Torres Small where they reside in Las Cruces.
Representative Small serves on the House Appropriations and Finance Committee as well as the House Education Committee.
