Rep. Chasey Responds to Food Assistance Investigation
Democrats Blast Martinez Administration over SNAP Case
OIG Report reveals potential pattern of falsification
ALBUQUERQUE- Today Representative Gail Chasey (D-18, Albuquerque) joined other Democratic state leaders for a press conference in response to the investigation conducted by the Human Services Department Office of the Inspector General’s regarding the administration of SNAP benefits for the most vulnerable New Mexicans.
“The Inspector General’s investigation points to serious examples of misconduct, and we are committed to getting to the bottom of it. It’s unacceptable that hundreds of New Mexicans who applied for emergency food assistance over the last 3 months may have gone hungry.
House Democrats know the importance of food assistance for a family trying to get a leg up, and we recognize the danger of children being malnourished. It is unbelievable to learn that records may have been falsified with the knowledge of top officials in this administration. The OIG investigation, though not yet complete, points to a pattern of misconduct and mismanagement on behalf of officials within Governor Martinez’s administration. It's disappointing that we haven't seen an immediate response from the Governor, especially when our childhood well-being rankings are among the worst in the country,” said Representative Chasey.
