Rep. Daymon Ely’s Resolutions to Address Crime Pass First Committee, Gain Momentum
Santa Fe, NM - Today, two resolutions sponsored by Representative Daymon Ely (D-Corrales) to address crime gained momentum and passed in House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee. House Joint Resolutions 2 and 3 propose investing portions of the Land Grant Fund and the Severance Tax Fund into a comprehensive approach to addressing crime—funding local police departments, courts, public defenders, behavioral health services, and corrections facilities.
“The fact is, we need to address crime prevention by looking at the entire system, and that includes law enforcement, prosecution and defense, courts and corrections, substance abuse, and behavioral health,” said Representative Daymon Ely (D-Corrales).
House Democrats are focused on real solutions to confront New Mexico’s crime crisis and are working to make sure communities are safe. House Joint Resolutions 2 and 3 will now move to the House Local Government, Elections, Land Grants and Cultural Affairs Committee.
