Rep. G. Andres Romero’s Bill to Expand Access to Higher Education Advances First Committee
Santa Fe – Today, Rep. G. Andres Romero’s (D-Albuquerque) bill to expand access to higher education advanced the House Education Committee. House Bill 127 would increase the scholarship amount for students and the distribution from the College Affordability Endowment Fund.
“This bill provides scholarships to students who need them most,” said Rep. G. Andres Romero. “Ensuring adequate funding to help hard working students attain a degree will benefit young people, families, and communities across the state. The legislature has prioritized this funding in the past, and I hope to revive it and make it one of this year’s priorities.”
House Democrats know that students in New Mexico deserve the opportunity, support, and tools to learn and be successful. Expanding access to higher education will relieve students from crippling college debt and create a more level playing field when they enter the workforce House Bill 127 now heads to the House Appropriations and Finance Committee.
