Rep. Nathan Small’s Bill to Promote Dual Credit Program Passes Committee

Santa Fe, NM – Today, the House Education Committee passed Rep. Nathan Small’s (D-Las Cruces) Memorial to promote the growth and expansion of New Mexico’s dual credit program. House Memorial 46 convenes a task force between the Higher Education Department and the Public Education Department to recommend a strategy to bolster this program seeing success across the state.

“New Mexico’s dual credit program is a bright spot in our state’s education system. Students from across the state are getting ahead because of this opportunity to take college classes while still in high school,” said Rep. Nathan Small (D-Las Cruces). “Dual credits are affordable for students and set them on the right track to begin college. This is an important step in ensuring all students have this opportunity.”

As our state sees a decline in college enrollment on college campuses across the state, this is critical in retaining students in New Mexico and ensuring they feel empowered to begin college with a head start.

House Memorial 46 now heads to the House Floor for consideration.
